Research in Physical Education, Sport and Health (PESH Journal) ensures long-term preservation, accessibility, and integrity of all published content through international archiving and digital preservation standards.

Long-Term Digital Preservation

The journal uses trusted systems to guarantee the permanent preservation of published articles.

a) PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN)
RPESH participates in the PKP Preservation Network, which provides free, automated long-term preservation services for OJS journals. PKP PN ensures:

  • Secure, decentralised, LOCKSS-based archiving
  • Protection against data loss
  • Preservation of the final published version of all articles

b) Institutional Repository Storage
Published articles may also be archived in institutional and national repositories in North Macedonia and abroad, in accordance with authors’ self-archiving rights.

c) Internal Backups
The journal maintains secure internal backups on protected servers to ensure content recovery in case of technical issues.

2. Self-Archiving / Author Archiving Policy (Green Open Access)

PESH fully supports authors’ rights to archive and disseminate their work.

Authors are permitted to deposit in any repository (institutional, national, subject-based, or personal website):

  • Submitted manuscript (preprint)
  • Accepted manuscript (postprint)
  • Published PDF (publisher’s version)

Archiving can be done immediately upon publication, without embargo.

Deposits must include:

  • Citation to the journal
  • DOI of the published article (if available)

This complies with Plan S, H2020, Horizon Europe, and major funder requirements.

3. Format and Metadata Preservation

The journal ensures that:

  • all articles are stored in safe, non-proprietary formats (PDF, XML when available)
  • complete bibliographic metadata (title, authors, affiliations, abstract, references) is preserved
  • DOIs (if assigned) remain permanently active

4. Continuity of Access

If the journal ceases publication:

  • the entire archive will remain available through PKP PN / LOCKSS
  • institutional repositories will retain access
  • previously published articles will remain open access under their original licenses

This ensures permanent availability of the journal’s scholarly record.

5. Compliance with International Standards

This Archiving Policy adheres to:

  • COPE Principles of Transparency and Best Practices
  • PKP/OJS Preservation Standards
  • LOCKSS and CLOCKSS preservation frameworks
  • DOAJ Best Practices for Archiving and Preservation
  • Clarivate’s Journal Evaluation Criteria for long-term access and continuity
